Does this sound familiar?  “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee.”  So, you’re not much of a morning person then, right?  Consider getting your mornings off to a simple start by creating a coffee station in your kitchen.

I recently organized a kitchen and I was surprised to find that the coffee pot, coffee mugs and the coffee itself were in three completely different areas of the kitchen.  The coffee pot was on the counter at one end of the kitchen.  The cabinet right above the coffee pot, where I would expect to find the mugs, housed other dishes instead.  The mugs were located across the kitchen on the opposite side of the island.  The coffee was in the pantry of all places, nowhere near the coffee pot.  This makes no sense.  Running all over the kitchen in the morning just to make a cup of coffee is no way to start the day.  One of my golden rules of organizing is “Store it where you use it“.

We reorganized the entire kitchen and placed everything in the cabinets and drawers closest to where the items are most uses.  Items used infrequently were placed in the higher, harder to reach places.  Where the items used daily were placed in the lower, easiest to reach places.  We took all of the miscellaneous dishes out of the cabinet above the coffee maker and replaced them with all of their coffee mugs.  The cabinet just below the coffee maker now stores all of their coffee and any accessories need for the coffee maker.

Storing all of these items together, near the area that they are used, creates efficiency in the kitchen.  It will also give this family a few extra minutes in the morning to actually enjoy that cup of coffee and hopefully help their day get off to a good start.

Happy Organizing!…Bridges
