Ahhh…clutter free! Are you ready to Get Organized for 2013?
Thank you for joining me for the 2nd golden rule of getting organized in 2013! Again, these are rules that I personally live by, work with my clients on and want to share with you! Some of these rules you will have heard, some of them will be new and then some of them you may say “Wow, that really makes sense!” The key to staying organized is to make conscious decisions on a daily basis of where things are put vs. where they belong (remember, rule #1 was “Everything in your house needs a home”).
This week we are going to talk about “Store it where you use it!” As basic as this sounds, I see this lack of attention every day with my clients. In their kitchens they might have paper towels located across the kitchen from the sink or no pens or writing utensils at their desk. If you think about what you use and where you use it, this should be your guide to placing items in your home. If you also think about your space around you, whether you are standing or sitting, that is your prime real estate. What you use on a daily basis should be within your reach and placed WHERE you use it.
A good example for me are my scissors in my kitchen. I have two pairs of scissors strategically placed. One pair are located near the sink that I use for meats and cooking. I have another pair placed in a drawer in the island. I stand at this island a lot and I need a pair of scissors that are accessible for papers and miscellaneous projects. The placement of the scissors prevents me from having to walk around and makes it more efficient for me to get things done.
Another suggestion are your coupons! Where do you use them? I bet you need them in your car so that when you are out and about they are at your fingertips when you need them. There is nothing worse than being in parking lot of a store that you need to run into quickly only to realize that your coupon is at home sitting on the kitchen countertop! Again, store it where you use it and the more you realize this, the more efficient you will become in your organization!
Happy Organizing! Bridges
