Creating Healthy Boundaries…

Do you have trouble setting or maintaining healthy boundaries when it comes to organizing?  Don’t worry this is something that many people struggle with related to organizing.  Maintaining organizational boundaries may sometimes feel like sticking to your New Year’s Resolution.  Remember that organizational success is not attained automatically; it takes practice like anything else we hope to get better at in life.  Stick with it and remind yourself it takes time and practice.

How do I set organizing boundaries and what does that mean?  First, it is important to understand that each space whether it is your closet, kitchen or home office has a defined space.  This means that there is a maximum amount of things or stuff that will fit into that space.  A good rule of thumb is to practice the One In; One Out Rule.  Ok, let’s say you have determined that you need a pair of dress shoes. After you purchase a new pair of shoes be sure to donate or consign the pair of shoes you are replacing.  Thus one new item was added to the closet space and another item was removed to ensure that the organizational boundary was maintained.

Happy Organizing!  Bridges
