If you are remodeling your closet, part of that remodel might be putting in a new clothing rod. Read on, or watch our video, to learn the standard length needed to hang a clothes rod.

The single hang portion of your closet needs to hang between 66 and 68 inches to the top of the rod. It needs to be 40 to 42 inches from the bottom for a double-hung rod, and the top rod needs to be 80 to 82 inches. These heights will accommodate your clothing, so they don’t overlap. For the double-hung portion of your closet, a good rule of thumb is that if you wear it on your top, hang it on the top rod; if you wear it on your bottom, hang it on the bottom.
